BIGGER digital marketing course

I’ve been teaching digital marketing for the last two years and the most common feedback I get from my students is that they want more – more content, more time, more hands-on training and more of my own commentary and ideas on their projects.  My original class was three hours long and covered the basics of digital marketing.  My second class added on three hours of writing, analytics and optimization.  I created a third class on Lean Startup based on my experiences at Le Camping and I’ve been mulling over how digital marketing and lean startup can really go hand-in-hand with each other.  To tie it all together, here is my new twelve hour class that integrates all of the above concepts.

Class 1 – Identifying your audience, how you can reach them, using email effectively
Class 2 – Connecting with your audience, blogging/writing, using social channels
Class 3 – Search optimization, goals and analytics
Class 4 – Lean Startup and your complete marketing strategy

The goal of the class is to turn anyone into an effective digital marketer.  You’ll be able to create excellent content, share it across a variety of channels (websites, email and social), understand what is working and how to optimize everything.  Each class will be split into three sections: the first hour will be small group brainstorming for content ideas, the second hour will be partner writing exercises and the final hour will be technical walkthroughs of how to use specific digital marketing tools and guided instruction on doing it yourself.  Since the class won’t be so compressed there will be more time for specific Q&A as well as my personal tips on how to be effective with your digital marketing.  The fourth class will tie everything together using lean startup methodology and show you how to make a compelling marketing strategy, using all of the different tools we’ll cover in the first three classes.

I’m very excited to offer this course and I think students will leave feeling comfortable in the digital marketing world, regardless of their starting background.  It will have enough indepth content to satisfy experienced users and cover enough of the basics to appeal to novices.  The small group exercises between entrepreneurs has proven to be a popular way of learning, so that’ll stay at the core of the class.  With the extra time I’ll also be able to share my own experiences in greater depth and give my personal feedback to all students.

I’m looking forward to seeing you all in class soon!  You can see the full syllabus/worksheet for the class here.
